Are you ready for the Long Island Regatta? This sailing regatta is the second largest in The Bahamas and it is the major fund-raiser on the island. Skippers from throughout The Bahamas compete for cash prizes and trophies in A, B and C class races. Some of the sailing sloops that take part in the regatta are built right on the island in the settlement of Mangrove Bush so the local community are involved right from the start.
It’s a great excuse to get down to Long Island and enjoy the local hospitality. You’d be crazy if you didn’t want to enjoy some of the island’s native mutton dishes or a conch salad along with a rum punch or three. There’s a kids’ corner with games for the entire family and performances by local bands. So make your plans now!
If you’re looking to find it then head for the Cultural Site in Salt Pond.
