This week I received an email from our old pal Mel who is one of a growing number of private pilots who is spending more time as a regular visitor to the Stella Maris Hotel, in which he assured me ….
‘First of all I am not a Fisherman! I had a small net on a pole when I was a boy and that was it! I only called into the Harbour to see where the new Port St George Marina will go when I was invited aboard for a trip to Exuma just 20 minutes away. I thought ‘Why not?’.
It was only on the way back that the fishing rods came out, 5 frantic minutes later and with a dozen fish landed we were on our way back to Stella Maris under the guidance of local navigator Dave Walker and wife Jeanette.
What an unexpected day out that turned into! That’s what I like about Long Island in the Bahamas you just follow your nose and things, well, they just ‘Happen!’ The waters here kind of ‘boil’ with fish – so I have a new hobby!”
Just goes to show, you can always find something new to do on Long Island…
